The above image was the starting point for the image I had in mind for Cheryl. She wanted something dynamic, moody, and with color. I decided to use two sheets of insulation panels as the background since I knew the sliver surface would create some interesting reflections and effects. However, with Cheryl so close to the background, any lighting I applied to her would wash out any effects I had planned for the background.
Knowing this, I decided to take a different approach and add the effects in post production. I increased the warmth on Cheryl, and shifted the background toward a nice blue tone for contrast. I also retouched the image for skin tones and effect. The following is the result.

Hey Stephen,
Great site and beautiful images. I’d love to know a bit more detail about your photoshop work on this image. The skin tones are stunning and overall radiance of the image is perfect
The coloring on the background was done with a separate layer, and then masked to replace the first. I shifted the colors cooler by changing the color temperature of the added layer and adjusting the saturation to suit.
I don’t know exactly how I did the skin tones since that was a while ago, and my techniques have changed since. But this looks like I used some healing, diffuse glow, blurring, and selective coloration. This was all masked to keep detail where desired.
Hey there Stephen! Just wanted to say I enjoy reading your posts.
Hope all is well!
Thanks, I appreciate that. I do need to update the blog more regularly, but I’ve been pretty busy with work all this year, and the first thing that suffers is the blog
